Stasis Dublin | Boxcutter & Live Band

Boxcutter
Dubbed as "one of Ireland's leading electronic producers", Northern Ireland's Barry Lynn leaped into the dubstep scene in 2005, generating huge interest with his genre-crossing production style. Snatching elements from broken beat, cosmic jazz, electronica and dub, he creates beautifully diverse, lush, soundscapes, drifting fearlessly beyond the realms of the mainstream. The Boxcutter sound is deep and bass-laden, layered with intricate bursts of flutes, guitar licks and chopped, twisting beats.

For this event, Boxcutter plans an exclusive performance with a backing ensemble, fusing live musicians with machines. The 3-piece band will consist of drums and synth with Boxcutter laying down samples and improvised bass guitar lines.

Last month, RTÉ Lyric FM broadcast a special live performance of Boxcutter as their contribution to the 2008 EBU Arts Birthday celebrations on 28.01.2008. The set featured some brand new material never heard before, as well as elements of older tracks reworked and recombined. Listen Here

Supporting Acts
Also on the night, special performances from both established and up-coming homegrown talent. Ed Devane's live set will feature his own home-made instrument alongside a myriad of delay pedals and a hand-held pda. Ed plans to use his baritone, tabletop, stringed instrument in an unconventional percussive manner to generate crunchy stoned beats. He's no stranger to Dublin breaks with releases on Touchin' Bass, Spacebar Sentiments and Takeover & new Irish label Mantrap.

A student of Trinity College's Music and Multimedia Technology course, Conor Hinfey aka Kachanski merges field recordings with his virus synth to create a blend of real world sounds, rave tinged synth lines and intensely programmed rhythms and breaks. His tracks meld all this with a spatial dynamic to create an organically flowing malaise of sonic events and textures. Warming up the system is Stasis resident Patch, armed with his delay unit and a record bag full of dubby electronica.

Visuals
Visual support comes from Kavi [Stasis / Parastate999], Relict [Parastate999], John Lineen [Stasis] & Razz [Stasis].

Sound Quality
Inspired by the standards of Sonar Festival, Stasis has adopted a policy of never comprising itself in terms of sound quality. For Tailors Hall we installed a €20,000 rig for the night & for this Boxcutter gig we have arranged for the installation of a 6k rig in the much smaller venue of Dame Lane.
